History
It was a sad occasion that brought Simule & Ona Moore’s children together in January 1968. While the family gather together heavy laden and saddened with grief, they felt a sense of joy because many years had passed since all the children had been fused like this, “at one time, in one place” The family was aware of the imminent departure. This was the only time that they seemed to assemble, “at one time, in one place” It was at that instant that Corrine, the eldest daughter thought to herself. ”This is not right…the only time I have the opportunity to see all my brothers and sisters is when a tragedy occurs or there is death in the family.” Turning to various members of the family she said, let’s have a family reunion so that we can all gather in joy and love without there being such sorrow and grief.” The idea was discussed and the 1st reunion was held in Greensboro, NC. It was hosted by Corrine and Willie Mayhand the summer of 1974. In 1976 the Moore & Harris families united with the families to form the Mayhand – Moore-Harris family reunion. This weekend marks our 24th family reunion.
